"Wellness" - it's a broad word and it means something different to everyone. The official definition for wellness is, "the state or condition of being in good physical and mental health." But I'm here to tell you that your state of "wellness" is completely up to you.
For me, wellness includes a lot of different factors like:
Get some fresh air
Get enough sleep
Practice yoga once a week
Exercise at least 3 times a week
Eat balanced meals
Find joy in my classes and in my job
Have a cupake every once in a while
As you can see, it's so much more than just getting a work out in and counting my carbs.
Health has been defined as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" (Official Records of the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100).So as you're making decisions to live a healthier lifestyle, keep in mind that being healthy doesn't just include your body, but your mind as well. Living a well-rounded, healthy life is a balancing act. You have to figure out when to eat healthy and when to let yourself have a cupcake, or when to workout and when to give yourself a day off, or when to stay in and study and when to go out with your friends. And if you find a way to balance all of those things, you'll start living your healthiest life.
Here's an article listing "45 Ways to Live a Healthier Life" - https://personalexcellence.co/blog/healthy-living/
The list includes small steps to change in your everyday lifestyle and more big picture self-esteem goals.
Here are some examples:
Drink more water
Get enough sleep
Meditate
Exercise... the way you like to exercise
Eat more fruits and vegetables
Purge negativity
Love yourself
I know it's the holiday season and balance is more difficult than ever, but I'm confident each and every one of you can figure out how to make it all work. So don't be afraid to have a cupcake every once in awhile, I know I'm not.
