As Halloween approaches, the fall season continues to keep people entertained in our little college town. Beyond the weekend parties, which only seem to become more prevalent as Halloween gets closer, there are still plenty of events that are hosted within the Harrisonburg city limits and the surrounding counties. However, the two main attractions this time of year are always the Fear Forest and Back Home on the Farm.

Awarded one of Virginia’s Best Haunted Attractions by the ScreamFreak Network, Harrisonburg’s Fear Forest brings that creepy Halloween charm with plenty of blood dripping zombies and cleaver wielding butchers to go around. This is truly a place where your worst fears will come alive.
Having entered the forest in previous years, I can definitely say it is worth the ticket price. For $13 you get to walk through murder houses, insane asylums, and graveyards that will keep you on edge for the rest of the night. Running this haunted labyrinth for 11 years they have truly perfected their maze even adding a second attraction called Fear Crops. This interactive wagon ride allows you to fight back against zombies out for the kill.

In case you’re looking for an activity that isn’t as chilling as the Fear Forest, there is always Back Home on the Farm. This 240-acre farmland in Rockingham County opens up seasonally to the public. During the fall season among their large attractions are the Pumpkin Patch and the Cornfield Maze. But year round, they operate as a farm with a mission to educate people about where their food comes from. They even have a field trip program for students to come on the farm and learn about agriculture.
