Keep the Party Going this Halloween

With this semesters new noise ordinance remember to register your party two weeks before your party. Any party that plans to host over 100 people must have the event registered with the Harrisonburg Police Department by Oct. 16 for Halloween weekend. The Breezes’ article in mid-September sums up how the noise ordinance works but the two main points (as vague as they are) include: (1) have the proper registrations and (2) the resources to facilitate the gathering. By registering the party you will get a warning before the police attempt to shut it down. Just remember that the HPD do not need a complaint in order to show up, if they can hear the noise from 100 feet away than they can shut down the party, and even if you don’t answer the call to receive your warning it still counts as a warning delivered.
